The Eye of the Artist in Asia

The Eye of the Artist in Asia is a series based on visual and sensory experiences that I worked on during my three-year stay living and traveling through Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Hong Kong. In this series I captured the fragile spatial serenity of a world that was timeless and hitherto unknown to me. Guttural sounds of different languages aroused thousands of echoes within my mind, and the richness of the content of those ancient cultures were irresistible to my soul. I painted with such joy all those smiling faces that inspired me, I painted the abundance of flowers and the exotic smells of the species in the food. I captured in visual tales of figurative forms, details of timeless abstractions where those beings so similar to each other, but at the same time so different from each other, enchanted me with their soft movements dressed in magical colors.

I had lived with another me in another forgotten past, all those scenes that happened in front of me. I always felt myself being observed by that another me, in a surreal and solitary game whose purpose was the search for me but without the desire to repeat myself when I was working on each new painting.

In those days I was protecting myself from the scorching sun of Asia with my own shadow, in that unique Asia that welcomed me in silence and deeply invaded me with its charms.
